Youth Ministry

Youth Leader: Lera Jackson

YOUTH GROUP - 11.15.2020 - 6:30pm - 7:30pm

TOPIC: 'ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE'

QUOTE: "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." -  Oprah Winfrey

LESSON: Luke 17:11-19

With Thanksgiving fast approaching it is important to remember all the things in which we are grateful. After catching up on "Where We Saw God" over the last couple weeks, we worked together to listing our thankfulness A-Z style. As you can see in the picture, we have lots in which to be thankful! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (Also, in case you're wondering, the final countdown is for Abram Collins' birthday!)

The Youth Group will be meeting next on Sunday, December 6th from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at the Youth Hut here at Hopewell! If you are in sixth grade through twelth grade, we invite you to come join us!!

Hope to see y'all there!

YOUTH GROUP - 11.1.2020 - 6:30pm - 7:30pm

TOPIC: 'SPACE AND TIME'

QUOTE: "These are the moments I love the most about our leading our youth group nights. When sporadic interest conquers pre-planned lesson plans." - Adam Feigl

LESSON: How Long Does It Take for Planets to Orbit the Sun

Sometimes you come in thinking we're going to talk about one topic but in the end the youth decided they wanted to learn more about space and time. With a Startracking phone app and a very clear night sky, we took turns touring God's universe leading to many questions like "How long does it take for Neptune to orbit the sun?" and "How much would I weigh if God placed us on Jupiter instead of Earth?" These are the moments I love the most about our leading our youth group nights. When sporadic interest conquers pre-planned lesson plans. Wait is that a quote? LOL.

The Youth Group will be meeting next on Sunday, November 15th from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at the Youth Hut here at Hopewell! If you are in sixth grade through twelth grade, we invite you to come join us!!

Hope to see y'all there!

YOUTH GROUP - 10.19.2020 - 6pm - 7pm

TOPIC: 'FEAR'

QUOTE: "To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom." -  Bertrand Russell

LESSON: Isaiah 41:9-10

With Halloween fast approaching and living in a very chaotic world it is hard to not to be afraid of everything going on. We discussed things that we feared from surficial creepy crawlies and clowns to a deeper dive into bullying and letting people we care about down.

The Youth Group will be meeting next on Sunday, November 1st from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at the Youth Hut here at Hopewell! If you are in sixth grade through twelth grade, we invite you to come join us!!

Hope to see y'all there!

YOUTH GROUP - 10.27.2020 - 6pm - 7pm

TOPIC: 'TOUGH TIMES'

QUOTE: "The next time you find yourself alone in a dark alley facing the undeniables of life, don't cover them with a blanket, or ignore them with a nervous grin. Don't turn up the TV and pretend they aren't there. Instead, stand still, whisper his name, and listen. He is nearer than you think." - Max Lucido

LESSON: 2 Corinthians 4:7-9, 2 Corinthans 11:23-27

In these uncertain "tough" times with e-learning, COVID, polarizing elections, and much much more, we are all stressed to the max and let's not forget that are youth are affected as well. We discussed what is affecting us in our own personal worlds and how God can lift us up and keep us positive when times are trying as they are all the time, especially in 2020.

The Youth Group will be meeting next on Sunday, October 19th from 6pm - 7pm at the Youth Hut here at Hopewell! If you are in sixth grade through twelth grade, we invite you to come join us!!

Hope to see y'all there!

YOUTH GROUP - 09.13.2020 - 6pm - 7pm

TOPIC: 'PERSONAL CHARACTER'

QUOTE: "Be more concerned about your character than your reputation" - John Wooden

LESSON: Romans 5:3-5

At Youth Group today we got to know each other a little better and traveled to places we personally wanted to go in the World playing "Social Distancing Charades". The the youth created a list of needs, wants, and wishes for our Youth Group! Last, we went over today's lesson on personal character and what it means to each youth individually and what the scriptures guides us to be.

YOU'RE INVITED TO OUR YOUTH COOKOUT THIS SUNDAY! 08.30.20 from 6pm - 7:30pm!

It's Adam Feigl from Hopewell United Methodist and I would love to personally invite you to our YOUTH COOKOUT, this Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 6:00 pm – 7:30pm!

We will be restarting our YOUTH GROUP and would love for you to join us outside in the lawn at Hopewell United Methodist Church. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, and fellowship. Please bring a folding chair, your appetite, your mask (yeah I know…yuck), and feel free to bring your 6th grade - 12th grade friends and family from the community. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow youth within our church and our community to help resurrect the youth program here at Hopewell. We would love to see you there!

Due to social distancing, we will need to make sure that your food is pre-ordered. To RSVP, please reply to me Adam Feigl, with the number of people who will be joining us (feel free to count adults), each person’s choice of a burger or hot dog (in addition to toppings – yes there will be chili and cheese), and if you need an alternative food choice in accordance to your dietary lifestyle. See you there!

I hope to see you there!

Adam

HAPPY EASTER FORM HUMC!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are spending a lot more time with our families while practicing social distancing. Unfortunately, our youth are missing out on friendships at school and church, sport and club activities, and some seniors may miss out on their prom and graduation experiences. As adults, a lot of these events and relationships defined who we are as individuals and its very tragic that during this pandemic our youth are missing out of these personal growth experiences.

If you are a youth with HUMC, a friend of our youth, or even a youth in the community, I am here and available to listen if you need someone to talk with about all that is going on in your life. Feel free to contact me at my e-mail address using the link on the HUMC youth ministry page and I will get back to you as fast as possible to set up a time to chat either by e-mail, text, phone, or video chat (your choice). Hopefully, once this is all over and we are back together as a community we can meet in person!

Everyone stay safe, wash your hands, and practice social distancing but don't forget to reach out to your friends and loved ones during this pandemic. It will be over soon and I can't wait to see what the future holds for our youth!

Yours in Christ,

Adam
